Just a short, quick one

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has commented about my grandmother. Kind words can really make someone's day, so thank you all very much. She's still hanging on and I am going to see her later, so maybe I can update on her tomorrow. I told my husband that the anxiety of waiting for something to happen either way is starting to get to me. He has been very understanding and picking up where I might be falling short with the girls this week. I appreciate him soo much.

I finished what I started with my birdy the other day. This is a quilt top for a swap I'm in. The hard part is over, now I just have to quilt and bind it.

100_2445

I am really proud of this part. I freehanded that "tweet" there. I can't believe it turned out so well.

And if you don't have one of these, GET ONE! They not only smell wonderful, but they crackle like a fireplace too. It's very soothing, especially while stitching :)

Thanks again everyone, and have a great day!

Working through anxiety and pain...

I have been absent this past week because my grandmother has taken a turn for the worse. The doctor gave her 3-4 days on Friday. She is only getting IV meds and is not responsive. My heart is breaking and I wish I could be with her every second of the day. Obviously, with 2 young children I can't though. While sitting by the phone reliving memories of her I have been doing a little crafting. Crafting has been a sanity keeper the past few days.

Obviously, I may be absent for awhile. My grandmother and I are very close and this hurts a lot. Please keep my family in your prayers.

Just a quickie tonight....

No, not that kind of quickie! I am exhausted, but want to keep to the blog schedule, so just some pics and a brief description tonight. Today's my Thrifty Thursday. Check out my finds from this past week :)

I love the illustrations in this book. Soo pretty!

100_2419
I have 2 of these now. This German how-to-draw book focuses on animals. The drawings are great and I'm planning on using them for embroidery.

100_2421
I found this vintage pyrex carafe in my grandmother's basement while searching for sleds the other day.

100_2423
I also found these fab juice containers.

100_2424
And this. This isn't thrifted, but it was made by my great-grandmother. Isn't it pretty. The sweet story behind this quilt is too long for me to type tonight, so maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

Alright folks, off to bed. Have a great day!

I finally made my own apron!

I have been wanting to for awhile. This idea has been in my head all week, and I am so glad to have completed it. And the bonus is, it looks just like I imagined! Now, I need a name for it:

100_2413

So is it more black tie or more French maid? I can't decide. If you have a good name, please let me know :) There may be a little something (HINT: a great surprise) in it for you if you have a good one.
Here it is modeled. I am not sure how I am going to like seeing my large arse on the computer screen, but here goes:

And since I was already sewing, I decided to brighten up the girls' Easter baskets. The original is on the right. I think they look more fun now.

And if there's any question of what I'm doing this week, here's the answer:

100_2392

I think I'm going to use that super cute fabric from wally world for my first ever Tie One On submission using this tutorial.  Why yes, I am now addicted to aprons :)

Have a great day ya'll!

Tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 70's and I can't wait! And, to add more of a warm weather feel to things, we have our first t-ball practice tonight. Paige was so excited this mornign when I told her. I am glad she likes it :)

Inspiration Monday

Wow, we had a big surprise in Tennessee this weekend. Look what we got to do:

100_2360

Please ignore our thrown together snow clothes. It has been 2 yrs since the last "big" snow, so needless to say we don't have snow clothes. We had a ball, but it melted too quick. It was gone by the end of Saturday.

So, today I start my blog schedule. I am excited about sharing these things, and I hope you enjoy reading about them. I am pretty much just going to post links to the things that inspire what I am making at the moment, but I have gotten fantastic ideas from other blogs when they do the same. I also want to start posting some great and cute tutes I have been finding lately. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

This week I am planning on making an apron, which I have a great idea for btw, spring clothes for the girls, an egg tree, & gathering ideas for a doll quilt swap I am hosting. I love looking at other people's pictures and work when looking for inspiration. I like to draw details from them, i.e. I like how that pocket looks on that apron, hmmm, I wonder what it would look like on P's dress, or on a purse. These are some of the fantastic pics I have been looking at lately:

Aprons

-love the length & pockets

-lots of vintage-y goodness

-fab fabrics

-LOVE

-vintage patterns

-I might have to buy this!

-and Amy Karols' Tie One On

Girls Spring Clothes

-The most inspiring catalog EVAH!

-Simple, everyday styles

-Custom Boutique on Ebay

-JournalModiste

-FAB!

-Etsy

Egg Trees

-Cute!

-Cuter!

Doll Quilts

-too many beautiful ones to pick, just get lost in them :)

I hope ya'll enjoy looking through the links and feedback is appreciated. Have a great day ya'll!

A little organization is all I need.

Now that I have gotten my computer fixed, (YAY!), I can start blogging during the peaceful hours known as naptime again! It's so quiet right now. But I have been thinking about how I want to do my blog, and I have come up with a schedule so I can say and talk about everything I am busting to talk about. So, here it is:

Sat & Sun- NO BLOG

Mon-Inspiration

Tues-Things I want to buy (I will be featuring ONLY handmade or WAHM things)

Wed-What I have made

Thurs-Thrifty/Vintage Goodness

Fri-More things I have made

I think I can stick with this fairly well, and I think it will make it easire for me to get everything I want to talk about in. I will be starting on Monday :)

Ok-now on to what I've been doing. I had forgotten how inspiring having a computer around was. Since I have gotten mine back, I have been looking at flickr and custom boutique items on ebay. It has really given me a kick in the rear, and I am so ready to make all kinds of things. I started this week on the first bits of clothing I have sewn since before Christmas.

Paige's dress is an e-book pattern from Farbenmix altered a little. I love the colors of this fabric! I almost put a ruffle on the bottom, but decided on te crochet lace instead. I like the old fashion-y look it gives it. This is a great pattern that I have even used with the less stretchy knit fabrics like cotton/lycra and jersey. You can do a lot with it.

100_2323

I made Kelsey a shirt to wear to all the Easter egg hunts we'll go to. I remember getting an e-mail of a pic with a chocolate bunny with a huge bite missing from his ear, and I thought it would be a cute applique. Her shirt is an Ottobre pattern made from blue cotton/lycra. The applique turned out even better than I thought it would.

100_2318

Doesn't she look like she took a bite of him?

And look it's almost Spring around here! My Bradford Pear tree has buds on it:

Have a great day ya'll!
