More Flower Power

I am trying to post as much as possible this April to get myself back into the habit. I have been through a sewing slump lately. It makes me sad to look at beautiful fabric and know I have no plans for it. If only that would keep me from buying it. So, I am jumping back into sewing and crafting.

I haven't made a kid's garment in forever, which is odd because that is all I used to make. I wanted to do a shirred dress because they are simple, sweet, and fast. If you haven't ever used shirring before, please check out Sandi Henderson's tutorial. I know it looks kinda scary at first, but the results are well worth it. Once you do something once, it's always easier the second time around.

Jennifer Paganelli's new Flower Power line is to die for. So sweet and romantic. This little dress has halter ties. Maybe K can wear it to church tomorrow, so I can get some modeling pics.

April Flowers Tutorial

I started on these yesterday and took pics along the way. I think this project would be perfect for a quick, fun project or even for gifts :)

Supplies Needed:

-Jelly Roll Strips 24" long, or a strip of fabric 2.5" by 24"
-Craft thread
-Crystals or buttons for center of flowers
-Hot glue gun
-Skinny dowel rods
-Some leaves from from faux flowers
-Floral Tape

1. Press all strips in half lengthwise. Iron the ends in about 1/4".
2. Using craft thread, make a running stitch down the length of the strip.

3. Pull thread to gather strip as you go. The final result should look like this:

4. I didn't get a pic of this, but I will explain it as best I can. Spiral the end of the strip on itself, not directly on top of the strip, but kind of staggered. Do this until the whole strip looks like this:

BOTTOM:

5. Sew buttons or crystals into the middle of flower.

6. Get the dowel rods, leaves, and floral tape. Start wrapping the dowel rod with floral tape using a spiral motion. Wrap the stems of the faux leaves with the tape.

7. Hot glue the flowers onto the top of the dowel rod and TADA! You have a beautiful flower. Make one or a bouquet!

A Post A Day In April

I know I have been severely slacking this year. We have been extremely busy this past month. I am going into my 5th month, the house breaks ground this month, and we are coaching t-ball, which is hilarious. So-my goal for this month is to do something creative everyday, and then blog about it. I hope I can live up to my challenge.

Some crafty things lately:

Retromama's awesome Egg tutorial. Very easy and very cute.

I glittered some birds from wally world and attached them to a basket from there also

I also finished my doll quilt swap 6 quilt. I really like it, but color thread should I quilt it in?
