Going Sew Crazy

Seven

My middle child turned seven today.

She's spunky, beautiful, fun, tomboy-ish, outspoken, a bit wild, and oh what a joy to be around.

She loves animals, talked her PawPaw into buying her a pony, and Santa brought her a much loved dog for Christmas last year.

She's the go to girl for her sisters. The one who will baby Finley and the one who will tease and torment Paige. She was going at her today for liking a boy. She's the one on the right. Cleopatra, up there.

Happy birthday Kelsey! I can't believe you're seven!

Productivity

This weekend I:

-finished my 2nd beach glass cushion

-quilted my crackle baby quilt

-started hand quilting my sparkle punch pillow

Feeling quite productive. B is going out of town this week and our Classical Conversations group begins meeting again tomorrow. I also have to plan and work on K's birthday party on Saturday. She turns 7 tomorrow. 7! Throw a couple of dentist appointments in there and I am hoping I just make it through the week!!

Sparkly

I fell in love when I saw this quilt on pinterest. Its so pretty and bright and I love how the stars touch each other! I knew I wanted to make something, but I don't have time for a huge quilt right now. One of my goals this year is to decorate my house to fit my style. Everything is kind of a mish mash right now. So, since I'm getting some furniture next month, I decided to make some pillows that match the color scheme I have in my mind for the living room. That's what the crochet cushions are for and also what I'm about to show:

This came together really quick. I still have one to do that is in progress. I hope to get it done this weekend. Following the tutorial, I came up with this. I love it. My stars are touching each other. (sounds a bit dirty when you think about it :) )

Finished it looks like this:

Squee! I originally planned for a 24X24, but decided to scale it down to 18x18. I am fairly sure I am going to hand quilt these. I think it would look awesome with some big contrast stitiching. I definitely want to a big quilt of this sometime in the future.

Gray Days

It's been so gray around here lately. Good for spending time in the sewing room, bad for picture taking.

We started school this past week. I'm glad to be back. I know for sure that this first year of homeschooling has been full of learning for all of us. I definitely have an idea of things I'd like to do differently, and things I'd like to do more.

I finished my crackle quilt, but haven't gotten a picture of it yet. AND I finished a beach glass cushion and am well on my way to finishing the other.

I'm very pleased with how they turned out.

I also starting working on some huge cushions, also for the couch. These should be 24X24. HUGE!

I'm using this pattern.

Maybe we'll have some sunny days and better pictures soon

I just wanted to share some things I have been working on lately. I have been doing really well with the "making time for me" thing the past few days. I have been organizing the house like crazy too. We are getting ready for some new furniture, so it seems I am nesting before that happens. I moved our homeschool downstairs yesterday. Now, I can do housework-y things while the kids are working independently instead of just sitting there waiting. Brice asked me yesterday if I wanted the people we used for our cabinets to make like a large island with storage under it. I may have to take him up on that. It's so funny that after almost 2 years in this house, we are still getting things just the way we want them.

On to the fun, crafty stuff. I have been working on these on and off for a week.

I'm calling them the beach glass cushions because that's what they remind me of. These worked up really quick. They are from the book Granny Love, which is by Sarah London. I used one of her patterns to make Finley's ripple blanket. She is so talented and the book is a very worth it buy. I just have to finish the backs on these. They are destined for the new couch.

I have also been working on my "Crackle" quilt. This pattern is by Aneela Hoey. I love it. It was a little tricky at first, but it is absolutely amazing once you get past it. I have finished 2 rows.

I love all the patterns that jump out at you! (I've said that before, right!)

There are so many exciting things going on in blogland. I joined this. I want to do this. I hope I have time for it all!

2012

I am so excited about the new year. Last year was such a year of change and decisions. This year we will be learning how to better incorporate the decisions we have made. For example, Homeschooling was probably the best decision we made last year. It was a huge one. I fought it for a long time. I didn't want to lose my free time, and quite frankly, I didn't want the responsiblility. When I decided to go for it, I was still apprehensive. I didn't just automatically know what to do. It was a huge learning curve for me and the girls. It still is. I am thankful to have found Classical Conversations. We meet with our community every week for 12 weeks in the spring and fall. My kids love it. I love it. We are both learning so much. I can sing my presidents in order. They can too. It's fun to learn.

With all that being said, obviously I have less time to sew and craft. I miss it. One of my goals this year is to learn how to get that back. Now, more than ever, I realize my need for time alone. I need that because I am now wih my kids all the time. We both need a break from each other. So, I have decided when Finley naps in the afternoon, the kids can play, read, run around, go outside, whatever, that will be our break. I'm not going to clean, that can be done after nap time. That is going to be MY time. I hope to stick to this plan.

So, now crafty stuff.

I am currently working on a few things, but this one is currently my fave. The patternn is Crackle by Aneela Hooey. I love, love, love all the geometric shapes that pop out at you in this pattern. It's like a quilt equivalent of those pictures you used to stare at until the hidden picture popped out. I am using Ruby by Bonnie & Camille here. Love all their fabric so much.

And look at this fabric yumminess! This is my Christmas money haul. Can not wait to use it!
