Going Sew Crazy

Sorry 'bout that!

I didn't mean to take a break, but the sinus fairy came to visit and I have pretty bad. All the "extra" time I have had has been spent picking lights, cabinets, tile, hardwood, etc. for the new house. I can't believe it is almost done, but will be so glad not to have to make so many decisions when it is over. I have been so tired that I have had a hard time getting into the holiday spirit. I have been watching lots of Christmas movies and am starting to feel a twinge. Hopefully it will grow.

 

The girls were getting along so well this afternoon I had to take pics. Finley is 3 months old today! Time flies! She is cooing and smiling so much lately. She also likes me! Both Paige and Kelsey preferred Brice from day one. It is so odd to be the one favored! Kelsey is my mess. I don't know what to do with her. We have always been more lax with her, but she gets into trouble with such style! We have a hard time laughing when we should be disciplining. My grandmother always worried about her being the middle child. I always told her she doesn't have the attitude to be looked over. And Paige, she is the biggest helper. She is so smart! At the age of 7, she has read most of the Little House books and some of the Harry Potter ones. If she isn't taking care of the baby, she is reading or drawing or begging me to teach her to crochet. I need to teach her to single crochet. She got chaining down really quick!

 

Speaking of crochet, this is about the only crafting I have done. I have mad a lot of progress since I took this pic. I can't wait to show it off more.

I have challenged myself to blog everyday in December. Some may not have pics, but I am determined to do it. I think tomorrow I am going to blog some about decorating the new house and what I plan to make.

Lots and Lots and Lots

-A sneak peek of my STUD swap. This is the first swap I have participated in since the first of the year.

Wow...Sometimes I can't follow through.

I see that my post a day in April turned into three whole posts. April turned into an extremely busy and crazy month. T-ball started in earnest and I apparently took for granted how much time coaching a team takes. Then. at one of our first games, right before her at bat, P got a stomach virus. We labored through that for about a day, when B came down with strep. Then P got strep. So we were sickly for about a week and then house stuff took over. Which reminds me that I still need to share a pic of our finished plans with all of you. Things are finally settling into a schedule and it seems like I just now have time to do other things.

I managed to start a spiderweb quilt. I have actually added a few more blocks to it since this pic. The blocks are very time consuming, but the result is so worth it. This will most definitely be an ongoing project. Maybe I'll be done by the end of the year!

We have played outside the handful of days it hasn't been raining lately. Seriously, it has either rained or been very cloudy for the past three weeks. It has us singing rain, rain, go away...

I scored a whole set of my favorite vintage Pyrex bowls from Goodwill for $15.00. Soo exciting!

I crocheted a bunch of flowers using Rose Hip's wonderful pattern.

Then I sewed them onto some square and made a simple nine patch mini quilt. I love how it turned out. Kinda like pop art. This is also my first try at free motion quilting, which was harder than I thought.

I still haven't gotten all my San Diego pics off my hubby's computer-so I have to put off that post again! It seems like I am just now catching up after the trip. It took a full week for my time to get back to normal!

Lots O' Miscellany

I  have lots to post about so here goes....

Atlanta was fantastic! I took my camera but forgot my flash card, so no pics. It was fun though. We went to the Braves game on Friday and shopped on Saturday. I was lucky enough to talk Brice into going to ICE on Saturday and I had a ball. I got some new Sublime Stitching patterns, some yummy homemade soap and this fab necklace from here.

We got home and of course I went thrifting and yard sale-ing. I found all this fab stuff this week:

This groovy tin was just to great to pass up.

Jadite refrigerator dish. I paid $5.00 but I think it was worth it :)

I have started working on a quilt for my Doll Quilt Swap 4 partner!

Paige has learned to swim underwater. She's getting so big!

She's also getting very strong willed. She vetoed my idea for a cupcake themed birthday party and chose this Hannah Montana Cake instead. (that's our secretary's photostream) She turns six next week and I think there are something like 3 dozen kids invited so I ordered a bunch of cupcakes anyway. (we have a SUPER large family and this is her first "other" friends party) I am planning on taking her and some of her friends to the movies on her actual birthday. The week after we are going to go camping at the river for a long July 4th weekend too. I can't wait!

Abbreviations Used:

Supplies Needed
Sz. G Hook
worsted/light worsted yarn
row marker (if wanted)
Yarn Needle

Ch 48, join in a loop to first ch, making sure not to twist the ch

Row 1: dc around (48 dc)
Row 2: (dc 10, dc twice in next dc) twice, dc around (50 dc)
Row 3: dc around (50 dc)
Row 4: (dc 11, dc twice in next dc) twice, dc around (52 dc)
Row 5: dc around (52 dc)
Row 6: (dc 12, dc twice in next dc) twice, dc around (54 dc)
Row 7: dc around (54 dc)
Row 8: (dc 13, dc twice in next dc) twice, dc around (56 dc)
Row 9: dc around (56 dc)
Row 10: dc around (56 dc)
FO, and weave in ends.



I made the flower from a vintage trim I received in a swap because it matched the yarn perfectly. I am sure you could use some rick rack or lace for the same thing. Just hand sew some basting stitches along the length of the bottom of the trim you decide to use. Pull it up and distribute gathers evenly. Sew a tack stitch in the middle when you get the desired look. I used a vintage button as the center of mine, but a cute covered button or even hand sewn beads would look good for this I think.

These were made to fit the Dixie coffee cups available in grocery stores. I have received a lot of compliments on mine, so I think they would make an excellent gift for any coffee lover. They work up very nice and quick!

Sassy, Sassy Aprons!

I joined the Sassy Apron Swap this time after seeing the many wonderful aprons the first time and after learning the joy of an apron. I have had so much fun designing and making this apron it's crazy!

It's always fun to add little things that seem to make the apron like ruffles and bias binding

















or fun flower shaped yoyos with vintage buttons (yes the blue has to come off :) )






















It's even fun to find a vintage child sized one at grandma's with a flower pocket
















I am really starting to love aprons.

Best thrifty day ever!

I had a great day at the yard sales today and wanted to share. This is gonna be quick with just descriptions :)

Chair I am going to refashion in aqua and red. I am gonna paint it in the same blue as the candelabra. Paid $5.00.

Candelabra that was off white, dingy and dirty. I cleaned it up and painted it.  Paid 50 cents.

Disney, Peter Pan, and Golden Book records. I think I am going to start collecting these because I love the illustrations. Paid $1 each

More records. Paid $1 each.

Vintage embroidery transfers. Paid 50 cents for a large bag of them.

Fire King Sugar Bowl. Paid $1.

Pyrex bowl. Paid 50 cents.

Glasbake divided dish. Paid 50 cents.

And the find of the day! A singer featherweight with case and buttonholer. Paid $20. I am so glad I found one of these. I have been looking FOREVER!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE warm weather...

which means I haven't been around much, but high 70's low 80's with a light breeze makes me just WANT to be outside. I don't think we came in until bedtime last night. We may as well enjoy it before the humidity kills the party.

I have been quite productive though. Here's a quick look at what I've done:

Large quilt top using new Sis Boom fabrics. Almost finished sewing the quilt top.

Round neck dress lacking buttons from that*darn*kat's etsy shop. Great and easy pattern. Cute, cute, cute on!

Pleated beauty bag from Bend the Rules Sewing. I liked the pattern, but not with this fabric. I may have to try it again.

Maybe my most favorite thing I have ever made! My Home Sweet Home pillow.Made using Swell and Ginger Blossom FQ's. Embroidey pattern from The Floss Box.I love how it turned out!

And look at this little stinker! She just doesn't look like a baby anymore. They grow up so quick. And Paige graduates kindergarten in a couple of weeks. My mom said next thing you know it's high school. I immediately started to cry. I WANT THEM TO STAY LITTLE!
